Jenifer Bamuturaki: The visionary CEO steering Uganda Airlines’ expansion
On #RystarLadies this week, as we conclude our aviation month of September profiles, we celebrate...
Jenifer Bamuturaki, the dynamic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Uganda Airlines, has been at the helm since July 2022, leading the airline into an era of growth and expansion.
As of today, September 25, 2024, under her leadership, Uganda Airlines has launched new routes to Harare, Zimbabwe, and Lusaka, Zambia, operating four times a week.
These new routes are set to significantly improve connectivity between East and Southern Africa, offering passengers shorter travel times without long layovers.
This expansion comes just a week after Uganda Airlines added Abuja, Nigeria, to its schedule, with twice-weekly flights on Thursdays and Sundays.
Utilizing the state-of-the-art CRJ 900-LR aircraft, the airline continues to uphold its promise of safe, affordable, and reliable service.
Bamuturaki’s leadership and vision have been instrumental in these developments. Born and raised in Uganda, she began her educational journey at Kyebambe Girls' Secondary School and completed her A-Levels at Nabisunsa Girls' Secondary School.
She later attended Makerere University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work and Social Administration.
Additionally, she holds professional qualifications in airline sales from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and hotel sales and revenue management.
As of 2022, she was pursuing a Master of Business Administration at Makerere University.
Her professional career spans nearly three decades, starting as a guest relations officer at Kampala Sheraton Hotel before transitioning into marketing roles in the hospitality and travel sectors.
These new air routes, operating four times a week using the advanced CRJ 900-LR aircraft, are set to boost connectivity between East and Southern Africa, offering shorter travel times and reliable service.
She joined Air Uganda in 2007, where she worked in sales and marketing, and later became the commercial manager at Uganda Airlines in 2019. Though she briefly left in 2020, she returned as acting CEO in 2021 and was appointed as the permanent CEO in 2022.
Bamuturaki’s strategic priorities have included establishing self ground-handling at Entebbe International Airport, expanding the airline’s routes for its A330-800 fleet, and optimizing operational costs.
Her efforts have garnered widespread recognition, including the prestigious Africa Travel and Tourism 100 Award in October 2022, celebrating her as one of the leading women in Africa's travel and tourism industry.
She is also the President of the Africa Airlines Association (AFRAA) whose Annual General Meeting she hosted recently.
The other destinations her airlines flies to include; Zanzibar, Mombasa, Nairobi, Juba, Dar es salaam, Mogadishu, Kilimanjaro, Kinshasa, Bujumbura, Dubai, Johannesburg, Lagos and Mumbai, India.
